The book report of Vanity Fair
Ⅰ
Vanity Fair is the famous work of the 19th century British novelist Thackeray and it is the most time-tested masterpiece of his life. The story is based on a very lively England Middle and upper class society in the 19th century. At that time, the country was strong, Industry and commerce development. The society was dominated by wealthy merchants who had made their fortunes by crushing colonies or exploiting labor. The war between Britain and France for power also rang out at this time. All sorts of people in the middle and upper classes were busy jockeying for position and fame. As the saying goes, "All the people in the world strive for profit, and all the people in the world strive for profit", fame, power and wealth are interconnected.
Ⅱ
There is no strict structure of the story. The content of the story is basically connected by the life paths of the two heroines, Becky and Amelia. The two women's encounter, constitute a caring and emotional story. Interspersed with various characters, all look drizzly.
Becky was a typical aspirant to high society. She was also a clever, witty, beautiful girl, but fame and fortune seduced her, the dust of fame and fortune wrapped her tightly, so that she became false and greedy, she by flattery and beauty into the upper society, but was finally abandoned by the upper society. However, Amelia, a rich girl whose status was completely opposite to Becky's, has a kind personality. When she suffered great trauma in her life, she took the hypocritical Osborne as her sustence. She went through the difficulties of losing her husband, raising children and losing her mother, and finally found the true love around her with Becky's advice. The ups and downs of the two protagonists, as well as the characters around the two protagonists in turn, constitute a deceptive, competing for fame and fortune, opportunistic vanity fair.
Ⅲ
It's not just a novel, it is a microcosm of society. Not just in Britain then, but today. Who is not burdened by the word fame and fortune? Everything else is built on that. When the problems of material life have not been solved, who will pursue a pure and false ideal? Therefore, the purpose of college students' study has become a job, and the purpose of work is to have a life that people can look at differently. Of course, there's nothing wrong with that. We're all pawns in the hands of fate. Calculate their worth, calculate how to raise their worth. Helpless ah, people will only worship, talk about those glossy characters, you don't do it, someone will do it.
Thackeray said: "The art of the novel is to express the essence, to express the true emotion as strongly as possible." By arranging the plot, Vanity Fair attempts to show that "all is vanity". He reveals the colorful and prosperous facade of capitalist society and lets people see its essence. Thackeray himself said he was going to write in Vanity Fair about "a group of extremely foolish and selfish people, reckless in their pursuit of evil and fervently seeking fame and fortune." At the same time, he said, it was "all death and quarrels and money and sickness." At the same time, we have to admit, this story is very realistic. The people in vanity Fair can't see it, the people outside the fame and fortune can't see it. All people crave money, status. Once you have one of these things, everyone else looks at you differently.
Ⅳ
Through reading the book Vanity Fair, I realized three things through the different fates of the two girls.
First, everything in the world has a price.
No matter what you pursue, what will be your pain. Some people are so crazy about wealth that they have to sacrifice their families for it. One seeks freedom, for which he has to lead a life of wandering and exile; In order to pursue fame and wealth, some people have to do something against conscience and morality.
Second, the goodness without scheming will put themselves in misfortune.
In Vanity Fair, Amelia is a child of good family will protect her too well, let her world pure and beautiful, she is very simple and very kind, but also very spoony, did not know George is not only a playboy or an ungrateful guy. The relationship between men and women is like a game, we should protect ourselves when we love, know how to stop the loss in time.
Third, life should not be all about pleasure.
In Vanity Fair, George is affected by the family environment, since childhood is a mercenary, and no sense of responsibility of the man, he for money, even in the case of already engaged and other women blind date; When he saw Becky's beauty, he almost wanted to elope with her. He liked to gamble and had lost most of his father's money, even taking it for granted. We have its rules and order in this world, we can not ignore those rules and order and live, in the present life, we should strive to get their own ideal life, do not cause their lifelong pain because of the temporary greed for pleasure.
Of course,Fame and wealth can be sought, but it is not the whole of life, if people pursue fame and wealth too much, fame and wealth will become the heart of the biggest temptation, people also become greed and hypocrisy and lose himself, lost a pure heart. Vanity Fair is a world of glitz and dust that blinds people. People are so preoccupied with advancing into the so-called upper society by all means that they neglect true feelings and love.
